Question about diabetes and swine flu vaccine?

Hi I live in Ireland and it is in the media that gp’s are getting ready to vaccinate those who are in an ‘at-risk’ category for swine flu. I am 29 year old mother of 4 and have been diagnosed with type 2 recently, ( both my parents have it, father type 1 and mother type 2.) I have only been diagnosed 3 months ago and have been on a diet contol to regulate my sugars etc, which has not worked so my gp is starting me on medication in 2 more weeks time. Anyway because i have only been newly diagnosed with diabetes do i still fall into the ‘at-risk’ category and should i go for the vaccination now? I mean there are alot of other very sick people i know in my community and i don’t want to seem silly asking for the vaccine now, especially as it was stated the vaccine is not readily available to all and there might be a shortfall in some gp practises for even those in the at-risk category?

Yes, having type 1 or 2 diabetes (regardless of how long you have had it) puts you in at ‘at risk’ group and you will automatically be offered the vaccine.
